We’re moving to South Korea! No, they don’t speak Spanish (and now you’re probably thinking, “Of course they don’t! Why would they? Did you think they did?”) – well, here’s our story: we were (and ARE) hoping to end up in a place that speaks Spanish. Eventually. That was also our thought before we moved to China. But as we prayed about our choices, God made it very clear that He wanted us to go here (the other position we were looking into in Ecuador literally disappeared as I showed up for a follow-up Skype Social Studies interview, haha – there was once a man who was leaving and he decided he wanted to depart no more. The End).
So what is Jeju? Well it’s the large, Maui-sized island just south of S. Korea – it looks absolutely beautiful and will be the perfect place for Emily’s lungs to recover from the Shanghai smog. We’re living in the Global Education City, which is currently home to 3 international schools with a plan for an eventual 12 schools in the Western part of the island (near the beach J). Our school is called the Korean International School – Jeju. There are cities in the north and south, but we’re pretty much in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by orange groves and green tea leaves.

I’ll be teaching 7th grade Social Studies with an emphasis on monotheistic religions. I’ll also being working with MS MUN and teaching a semester elective on Psychology and Ethics. Very exciting times. Emily is teaching PE and Art for the KIS Prep program, which focuses mostly on preparing Koreans with low English levels for entry into the main campus of the school. Although an international school, the student population is near 90% Korean at this point. They pioneered their first semester already in the Spring, but Emily will be joining and helping to define something that is very new. The school itself is only in its 4th year, but it looks like a great place to work. Here's a link to the Korea International School website: http://www.kis.ac/, if you are interested in more info.
Wondering what Jeju looks like? We’ll be able to show you soon with our own well-refined point and shoot skills, but in the meantime check out this video! It’s all about the nature and the scenery here, and the hikers within are awaiting some long-anticipated exploration time :).

P.S. We are moving into a 3-bedroom place, so if you like the video and have an interest in coming to visit us, you’re invited!! We’d love to be able to show you where we’ve made our home.
