Steve and I are so excited to be living in an active community where we have our choice of sports to play! If you know Steve, then you know that Ultimate Frisbee is one of those sports. We love going up to Tamna field on the mountain every Sunday and playing with other frisbee fanatics until the sun sets. We really do feel blessed beyond belief to be able to run in clean air, with a view of the mountains and the squid boats out in the ocean while we play! So thankful.
But Ultimate is not what I’m supposed to be writing about. This mini-blog is about the time we played in a beach volleyball tournament as a typhoon came rolling in….
The weather had been beautiful and sunny all fall…perfect days to go and jump in the ocean! That was not the case the weekend of the tournament though. The wind was insane! It kept blowing over the tents, and every serve had to be gauged on the direction the wind was gusting. The craziest part though was the tide. The waves kept rolling onto the courts, which definitely changed the element of the matches. It was actually pretty fun to play in ankle deep water!
Our “Juicy Oranges” team actually did pretty well, especially considering that we were placed in the A bracket instead of in the B. Go Orang-iessss!
All in all, typhoon volleyball is not my favorite sport of choice, but it was definitely a fun experience, and it was still beautiful :) There’ll be another tournament in the spring if anyone is interested in playing!
