We don’t actually know the name of this specific oreum, but most people refer to it as “Saddleback,” so that’s what we’re going to go with. This oreum was especially fun because it’s sandwiched between our two favorite oreums on the island: Sanbangsan and Songaksan!
We set off on our bikes to pedal the 10 minutes to get to Saddleback. We meandered through farm lanes as we searched for the trailhead, enjoying different views of scenery that we see nearly every day. We met some friendly farmers who were using a drone to dust the crops, and we met some other farmers who helped point us to the trailhead. We ended up circling the entire mountain before we found that trailhead, but they were still very friendly! Apparently there are several trailheads and we found the last one possible, haha!
It was worth it when we found it though! We locked up our bikes and headed up through the narrow trail on part two of the adventure. We basically walked along the ridge the entire hike, seeing better and better views as we climbed higher and higher!
We could see farmland and oreums as far as the eye could see to one side, and then the ocean with Sanbangsan and Songaksan on the other side. It was fantastic!
What wasn’t so fantastic was the number of SPIDERS along the trail! Seriously, it was actually kind of terrifying, especially when there were webs on either side and we had to run the gauntlet of gargantuan yellow eight-legged enemies! At one point, we had to simultaneously duck under a web while stepping over a web AND not touching either side. Good thing I had a heroic husband to go first!
At the top of the mountain we finished our year-long adventure of reading the Sherlock Holmes stories. Not a bad place to read...
After our great adventure just down the road from our apartment, we ended the day with a Studio 38 date- salad, paninis, and sparkling pink lemonade.
I guess the spiders were worth it after all….
