This summer has been a blast! We left super smoggy smoggersville (aka Shanghai) for the sunny blue skies of California for six weeks! The most blog-worthy event we did this summer was a family-fueled race called The Color Run. Our team, "Hughes Hues," showed up to the Sacramento starting line sporting clean white shirts.....and crossed the finish line wearing a rainbow. It was awesome.
You may muse, as you are mystified by the marvelous masterpieces of the mystical before-and-after pictures, "How might this mysterious magic manifest itself?" Or you might not, since it's actually kind of obvious, and you are most definitely getting tired of my alliterations by now. Anyway, as we ran this 5k race, volunteers would spray different colors of powder-paint on us at each kilometer mark we passed.
1st K: Yellow- not much there yet. 3rd K: Pink, aka "The Station I Forgot to Close My Mouth" Apparently "taste the rainbow" only works for skittles, because that pink powdery paint didn't really do much for me, besides force me to spit pink for the next kilometer or so, haha. | 2nd K: Orange- getting a little better! 4th K: Blue! Steve STILL has blue paint in his ear and it's been a week now, haha. |
At the finish line we were greeted by a pumpin' paint party. The Dj got everyone dancing and throwing paint....it was a fantastic way to celebrate and promote physical activity! A great environment of painted-friendly people :)
The rest of the day we got a lot of strange looks as we toured the Capitol Building, enjoyed Oldtown Sacramento, and celebrated at the Cheesecake Factory. The best part was when we had to walk behind a tour guide as she was giving her shpiel to a group of elementary school students. The students thought it was hilarious to see a line of painted people walk by as they were trying to learn about California government. It was great!

It was a great day! It was my parent's first race and they ran the whole way! Woohooooo! Lyssa couldn't make it this time, but I have a feeling that The Color Run might become an annual tradition. :)
