We have been very happy at SMIC Private School for the past three years. We have learned so much through these jobs, and we will always look back on our time as a "Shark" with fond memories. Each year brought different challenges and responsibilities and opportunities for growth.
Steve taught 4th Grade Chinese Social Studies for the entire three years. His first year consisted of several very early mornings, as he developed the curriculum from scratch. A curriculum, which, I have to say, is INCREDIBLE! I had the opportunity this spring to look over his lessons, and they are AMAZIng! If you ever want to know anything about Chinese dynasties or culture, we can hook you up! I am quite the proud teacher wife :) This last year he also served as the Grade Level Coordinator and the Student Council Leader, where he managed the rest of the 4th grade teachers and got them super excited about the fun little "extra" activities that come with teaching elementary school (you know, things like getting pied in the face, dressing up like book characters, and dying their hair unnatural colors ;).

The past two years I taught PE to the 6-12th grade, in addition to becoming certified as a Personal Trainer and as a Youth/Adolescent Trainer. I loved having a different schedule each day, and being able to teach about a variety of topics, from general sports to fitness to goal setting to team building and beyond! My first year at SMIC I actually taught in the Kindergarten, where, as Teacher Emily, I had some very memorable days teaching 4-5 year olds English.
Steve and I also enjoyed coaching! This last year we co-coached middle school and high school tennis together, and it was a blast! We especially enjoyed taking our team to the Masters tournament, where we were able to see Federer play against our team's new favorite underdog: Monfils!
I also greatly enjoyed coaching JV Girls Basketball for the last three years, and have had some amazing times with my team!!
We are so blessed to have worked at SMIC! We will greatly miss our students and players, and can't imagine ever having such great students ever again! Check out our happy school in the video below (This one wasn't made by us, but it does give a great idea of what our school was like!). Go SHARKS!
